Success Story 3 - Famous Victory
Our tax manager Una Beecher’s brother, Paul, won the famous Hickstead Derby last weekend for only the 13th time for Ireland in the Derby’s 52 year history. The last Irish victory, in one of the most famous equestrian events in the world, was in 2003.
Paul, who was the first of the 31 starters, had a clear round with Loughnatousa WB in the famed Sussex arena with its iconic Derby Bank, the biggest of its kind to be found anywhere in the world, where riders take on a front descent. Only one other rider had a clear round and in the jump-off against Will Funnell, who was seeking a fourth Derby victory, Paul had another clear round to lift the Boomerang Trophy named after Eddie Macken’s famous horse.
Loughnatousa WB was bred by the Beecher family in their Loughnatousa Yard in west Waterford. You can find further information at www.loughnatousa.com.
Congratulations to Paul and the Beechers on their great breeding and sporting success in what is effectively showjumping’s Grand National.
