Success Story 1 – Educate.ie On Nationwide
by Noel Murphy

Our clients Tony and Patricia Walsh of Walsh Colour Print were featured on June 27th on RTE’s Nationwide programme regarding their new educational publishing imprint – www.educate.ie.

The company was started in Castleisland, Co. Kerry in 1989 when Tony bought a second hand printing press and operated it from a spare bedroom.

The company, which is one of the top printing companies in Ireland, currently has 92 staff with a local economic contribution of €4m plus. The company operates a programme to help young people by giving practical experience to transition year students and work placements to 3rd level students.

The aim of the company’s latest diversification operation as educate.ie is to provide teachers with help to meet the challenging environment of today’s classroom by producing books that capture student’s attention with the quality of their content, expression and design and at prices that parents can afford. In other words low cost yet high quality. Already educate.ie is the market leader in this area.

The books have been commissioned by over 40 experienced educational staff for the primary and secondary schools curriculum. Each contributor is an expert and has years of classroom experience as a teacher. All the books are produced in Ireland by Walsh Colour Print.

Currently the company is looking to the future with its software team to develop educational e-Books for iPads/tablets.

Tony and Patricia are always looking for new opportunities and ideas to develop their printing business so if you have an idea that may be of benefit to them please feel free to call me to discuss your proposition.

Congratulations to Tony and Patricia on their success to date and best wishes for the future with educate.ie

Success Story 2 – Raising Funds
by Seamus Parfrey

In early June, Peter Cox, an award winning photographer, of Peter Cox Photography – www.petercox.ie - started a project on kickstarter.com – a crowd-funding website - to raise finance to enable him to publish his landscape photography book “The Irish Light – A Collection of Landscape Photographs”.

Peter’s proposal was to pre-finance a large format, hard-cover coffee table book with more than 80 images across 112 pages by raising $11,000.The fundraising project has a 30 day time limit and if full funding is not raised then no money changes hands.

Within two days Peter had raised the full $11,000 and to date he has raised in excess of $31,000 with a final deadline date of July 4.

This highly successful fundraising effort means that not only will the book be printed for sure but that it will be larger (128 pages versus the original 112 pages) with a larger print run of 3,000 copies.

You can see the stunning work that Peter produces and has for sale in his gallery in High Street, Killarney, Co. Kerry by visiting his website – www.petercox.ie .You can also support his project through his website if you so wish.

Success Story 3 - Famous Victory
by Seamus Parfrey

Our tax manager Una Beecher’s brother, Paul, won the famous Hickstead Derby last weekend for only the 13th time for Ireland in the Derby’s 52 year history. The last Irish victory, in one of the most famous equestrian events in the world, was in 2003.

Paul, who was the first of the 31 starters, had a clear round with Loughnatousa WB in the famed Sussex arena with its iconic Derby Bank, the biggest of its kind to be found anywhere in the world, where riders take on a front descent. Only one other rider had a clear round and in the jump-off against Will Funnell, who was seeking a fourth Derby victory, Paul had another clear round to lift the Boomerang Trophy named after Eddie Macken’s famous horse.

Loughnatousa WB was bred by the Beecher family in their Loughnatousa Yard in west Waterford. You can find further information at www.loughnatousa.com.

Congratulations to Paul and the Beechers on their great breeding and sporting success in what is effectively showjumping’s Grand National.
